I love AFM and the vision God has given us, to go to the largest and least-evangelized people groups in the world to share the love of Jesus. When I first learned of these groups, I realized my church and I had missed a part of Christ’s command in Acts 1:8, “to go to the ends of the earth.” We were involved in missions totally where the church already existed.
Sometime after this I was asked to interview for the AFM Board. At the end of the interview I was given an information packet for prayerful consideration. As I arrived home, a post card that said, “Join AFM, Destination Gujarat” fell out of the packet. It featured a picture of a beautiful little girl from India. I saw her eyes and something inside said, “You should do this.”
Our team on the trip was “of one accord,” as Scripture says, praying throughout the day as we walked the streets of cities and small villages. And the children, well, they captured my heart.
One day as I was surrounded by so many of their beautiful faces, a deep sadness came over me. My mind cried out “We can’t lose all these children, Lord! How is it I am so blessed to know you, and they’re not?” In that moment, God gave me His heart for these who have never heard the name of Jesus Christ and I cannot rest until all are reached.
This Thanksgiving, as we take time to thank our Heavenly Father for His presence in our lives, let us seize the opportunity to show our gratitude by partnering with AFM in bringing the Gospel to those who are still waiting to hear it for the very first time. There is no greater way to thank God for His goodness to us than to share His goodness with others.
Wishing you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving,
Constance McDearmon
