"How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? What is the 10/40 Window?

In its most simple form, the 10/40 Window is the rectangular geographical space between the 10th and 40th latitudinal lines in North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Imagine a line running east from Portugal to Japan, then down to the Philippines, then west to Guinea, and back to Portugal again. That is the 10/40 Window. Inside and around these lines live the vast majority of the world’s Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, and animist people groups.

More significantly for followers of Christ, the 10/40 Window is an area of great spiritual need. According to research compiled by the Joshua Project, the 10/40 Window encompasses approximately 4.89 billion people who make up approximately 8,209 distinct people groups. Of those people groups, 5,623 are considered “unreached,” meaning they have no active Christian presence among them either by indigenous believers or foreign cross-cultural workers. That means that roughly 3.02 billion people, making up 62% of the 10/40 Window’s population, live without access to the Good News of Jesus Christ.

When we at AFM refer to the 10/40 Window, we refer to the people of the world who are still waiting to hear about the saving grace of Jesus. This is the global window most in need of faithful Christ followers to come and share the hope we have in Jesus.
