Power of Prayer

The Power of Prayer Support

Pray for the Lord to call more workers to the harvest among the least evangelized peoples

Pray for the least evangelized peoples in the world to choose to follow Jesus as their Lord

You can pray regularly – a child, hard working parent, or person with health challenges – you can pray!

By praying fervently, you are an active partner with AFM and its missionaries in bringing the Kingdom of God to peoples and cultures that lack the light of Christ and his healing power.

The Bible & Prayer

When he (Jesus) saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Matthew 9:36-38

I will tell of the decree of the Lord: He said to me “You (Jesus) are my son, today I have begotten you. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession…Psalm 2:7- 8

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving; and pray for us also, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison, that I may make it clear, as I ought to speak. Colossians 4:2

The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects. James 5: 16b

Truly, truly, I saw to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son, if you ask anything in my name, I will do it. John 14:12-14

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide; so that whatever you ask the Father in  my name, he may give it to you. John 15:16

Prayer & The Book of Common Prayer

Collect  9, “Of the Reign of Christ”

Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

Collect 16, “For the Mission of the Church”

O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you, bring the nations into your fold, pour our yours Spirit upon all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, on God, now and for ever. Amen.

O God of all the nations of the earth: Remember the multitudes who have been created in your image but have not known the redeeming work of our Savior Jesus Christ; and grant that, by the prayers and labors of your holy church, they may be brought to know and worship you as you have been revealed in your Son; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Collect for the Day of Pentecost

Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit; Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Faithful People of Prayer

Andrew Murray

The behavior (of prayer) is one of the watchman on Zion’s walls whose call does really touch and move the King in heaven to do what otherwise would not be done”

George Mueller

The great point is, that we ask only for that which it would be for the glory of God to give to us; for that, and that alone, can be for our real good. But it is not enough that the thing for which we ask God be for His honour and glory, but we must

secondly (we must) ask it in the name of the Lord Jesus, viz., expect it only on the ground of His merits and worthiness.

Thirdly, we should believe that God is able and willing to give us what we ask Him for.

Fourthly, we should continue in prayer till the blessing is granted; without fixing to God a time when, or the circumstances under which, He should give the answer. Patience should be in exercise, in connection with our prayer.

Fifthly, we should, at the same time, look out for and expect an answer till it comes. If we pray in this way, we shall not only have answers, thousands of answers to our prayers; but our own souls will be greatly refreshed and invigorated in connection with these answers.
